Working with the perpetrators of Domestic Violence (DV) can be very challenging, particularly if they come under mandatory instruction. Is there any hope for a perpetrator to change? How can we work with someone who has a lot of anger? Is it safe enough for a female counsellor/psychotherapist to work with a violent man? What is the difference between a male perpetrator and a female perpetrator?
This training is designed as a continuum from Part I, and will give both beginners and experienced counsellors/therapists the opportunity to learn further about:
- identifying perpetrators of DV
- presenting the knowledge of DV and its cycles to the perpetrators in a safe way
- DV and the perpetrator’s responsibility
- the underlying issues of the perpetrator’s power and control
- the benefit of AVO for perpetrators of DV
- the framework used when working with the perpetrators of DV
- the intervention used for perpetrators of DV to take non-violent strategies
By the conclusion of this training, participants will:
- develop further knowledge in working with perpetrators of DV
- learn how to identify DV at the early stage
- learn how to engage perpetrators of DV in the therapeutic process, especially those under mandatory instruction
- learn the framework, and the issues to address, in working with perpetrators of DV
- learn the skills demonstrated in engaging the perpetrator of DV and develop practical applications for use therapeutically
- increase in their confidence to apply these skills in their own practice
